Welcome to Preparing the Soil. I'm so glad you are here! Let me tell you a little about how this site came to be and what you can expect.

It's tempting to start by saying, “It all started when...”, but the reality is that there is no definitive starting point. Rather, there are lots of little puzzle pieces in my life, heart, and mind that after years of sitting in front of me, have started to fall into place. I am starting to see a picture that God is arranging for me and I am gaining an understanding of what these individual pieces mean. I'll spare you the many stories (really, it would take an entire book to share!) and instead, explain the most recent happenings that have led to this new little space of mine called Preparing the Soil.

Talk to anyone who knows me and they will probably all mention my passion for parenting. My girlhood dreams were filled with thoughts of being a mother and now my womanhood dreams are filled with thoughts of being a better mother. My heart and soul beat to the music of, “Be the best mother you can be in order to raise children who know and love the Lord and are committed to spending their lives loving God and serving others.” This is my mission, the burning desire in my heart, the motivation for most everything I do. And I have a slight obsession with talking about it. To God, my husband, and anyone willing to spend five minutes with me.

Before I go on, let me state this emphatically: This passion is a gift from God. I do not, in any way, believe that my own human and selfish desires could ever produce a calling this high...and this hard. It does not come from me and therefore no applause is due to me nor any pedestals awaiting my feet. Instead, God has -- for what I believe are His purposes -- put a fire in my soul. After years of letting that fire burn slowly within me, He has shown me in some no-denying it ways, that He wants me to start fanning the flames.

And so, that is what I am doing. I am going to fan the flames. I'm going to fan hard. I hope to ignite in others a passion for parenting and a desire to cultivate the hearts of those entrusted to us. By sharing my journey and the lessons God is teaching me, I hope that you will be inspired to strengthen your own relationship with God and to pour out love and service to your family. If that sounds like something you are interested in, I invite you to come along with me on this journey. Feel free to subscribe via RSS or by email (see form to the right).

Next post: I'll share a little about where the name Preparing the Soil came from. It was an amazing, God-given, “I once was blind but now I see!” moment. He amazes me every day.

I admire how you hear what the holy spirit is revealing to you and then act on it! God will use you immensely! I always enjoy reading your posts! Your love for the Lord simply shines through in everything you do!! I am now following your blog! One suggestion.. I am a homeschooling mom of two early teen boys. I know you have younger kiddos. Maybe you will get a contributor now and then for moms with older kids? Just an idea!! God bless you!!

I look forward to reading this blog (as I LOVE reading your other one) and know I will learn much from your passion to be a better mother. You clearly have so many gifts and I’m so happy that you’ll again be sharing them with us. Congratulations on the new venture!

I love this new blog. My children are 21,16 and 8 and I became a christian after a very bitter marriage break up hence the younger child and I wish I knew now what I did than.

Being a mother and now a grandmother to a 10 month old little girl (I am nearly 40 in the coming new year) has been very challenging but the best experience of my life and I wouldnt change it for the world. I have come through so many hurdles, good and bad times and I look back and I always said I wouldnt make the same mistakes with the next one but I did but different ones.

Only with the grace of God has he taught me how to be the best mother I can be with what I know.

Thank you for sharing your amazing blog and ideas with us. You are very inspiring. I think you are an amazing mother and how blessed are your children to have you for their mother

Yes, we are all in such desperate need of God’s grace. I blow it every day with my kids…I am never who I want to be. But I am thankful for His continued love and grace in my life. It forces me to keep going, day after day.
