On June 1, I arrived back in the US with the four older kids. Jason and Bethany stayed back for another week and a half and then joined us in North Carolina. We arrived in our new home (a home and campus that are especially for missionaries on furlough) and we enjoyed a few weeks of normal life: getting settled, cooking together, going on walks, soaking up the summer sun, and enjoying little American luxuries like bath tubs and yummy ice cream. All in all, it was a great few weeks to acclimate ourselves back to a country we hadn't enjoyed together in four years.
At the end of June, we drove to Asheville, NC where I had the joy of photographing a wedding. The bride was a student at the school where Jason and I taught in India (2000-2003). She was in 7th grade when we met her! Now she is a beautiful married woman with a gorgeous young daughter. It was such an amazing experience to photograph my first wedding, to see old friends, and to witness the joy of so many people. I was so blessed!
After the wedding, we drove to Michigan for what would be a month-long visit to friends and family. It was so good to see people (and our sweet dog Lucy!) again. The last few days of the month brought us to Grand Rapids, Michigan to spend a few days with good friends. Jen and Adam were good friends with Jason in college and we have enjoyed their friendship together ever since we started dating. Now with our nine children all together, we have a great time swimming, hanging out at the beach, talking, grilling, and remembering old times. We are thankful for their friendship! And that was June!
